Pieces of One

Aren’t human beings incredible? We are made up of lots of tiny pieces. Cells that form tissue, fight off germs, hold us together, make us unique. Cells that communicate with each other, and function as a community inside of ourselves. All of these itty-bitty little pieces of ourselves combine to make one life. One. There is more to the story though, than the physical. We have emotional pieces too. We have memories, hopes, dreams, fears, and expectations. Sometimes our pieces are lost, taken away, or are given to us by another member of our community to help make us a whole. You are born with certain pieces, and as you learn and grow you gain new pieces or get rid of the ones that aren’t as important. We’re almost like a puzzle. People can’t figure us out. Even as we examine ourselves, we end up with question after question. Sometimes, things just don’t fit. That does not matter though, because what matters is the pieces you have and how you have come to end up with those pieces. What matters is what you shape with those pieces. You might be trying to make the puzzle of your one life look like another persons puzzle, and you get frustrated because it just isn’t fitting. Your pieces don’t add up.

“Why don’t I look like them?”

“Why don’t I sound like them?”

Why can’t I draw like them?”

“Why don’t I fit into the puzzle?”

I am here to tell you right now, in the most honest an sincere way that I can, that these questions hurt. These questions can lead you to believe that you aren’t worth it. But these questions have ONE answer. That one answer, is because you are made up of your own special pieces. You have pieces that nobody else in the world has. You have the piece that your grandmother gave you on your first birthday. You have the piece that your best friend gave you when you didn’t quite pass that test. You have the piece that your mother gave you when she tucked you in at night. You have the piece that your aunt gave you when you couldn’t find the piece your best friend gave you.

“I am unique, and special.”

I can do great things with the pieces I have.”

Everyone has something to offer, and someone needs a piece I have to offer.”

People are made up of several tiny pieces, and they can break at any one moment. Pieces can be added to them, or taken away. The most important piece is love.

That is one of the most beautiful parts. The whole time you are learning, and growing, and receiving you are also sharing. You have the ability and the capacity to share pieces with the people you love and care about. You have the wisdom, strength, and joy to reach out and touch strangers with a piece you can spare. Sometimes, you have so many of the same piece that you can just hand them out whenever anyone needs them because people are always giving you duplicates. Sometimes, you make your own pieces. You dig deeply down inside of yourself, and you pull something beautiful from deep within you when you or someone you know needs it most.

Human society is almost like the human body itself. Lots of pieces, all trying to fit together into a puzzle and form a community. Sometimes the pieces fight with each other, and sometimes the pieces don’t understand each other, sometimes the pieces never cross paths because they have very different jobs to do. But in the grand scheme of things, we all work together to form a balance in community.

I can give one of my pieces to a neighbor, she can then give that piece to her neighbor, and he can give it to his neighbor and so on until there are little pieces of me everywhere. Until I have had such a profound effect that nobody, including myself, is aware that I touched so many people. Human beings are constantly creating, constantly being inspired, constantly learning, growing, mimicking, until it all wraps together into this incredible puzzle we call life.

My pieces are not perfect, but neither are yours. Let’s be one, together,

Happy Adventures,
Burkie

A Picture Speaks a Thousand Words- what about a drawing? Longing for that ONE other thing… and the other one too.

and the photo u used is great!
I love how you have drawn an analogy between a puzzle and a person…a fresh idea! the first part of the post is kind of poetic which enhances the quality of your writing in my opinion.
    Congratulations! 🙂

Thank you. 🙂 I created that image myself using Adobe Photoshop. I just let the stylus guide my hand, and ended up with those lines. Then I looked at it and went with the first “shape” I saw and colored it. Just something freeing, creative, and expressive. The idea is not a new one, but it sure is fun.

I am so honored that you think there is quality to my writing, and then again humbled by all the amazing writers out there.

    This post is brilliant.

“You have the wisdom, strength, and joy to reach out and touch strangers with a piece you can spare.”

Thank you so much for that. You are inspiring.

Aww, thank you so much. ^o~ I was just writing from within, I guess. The world is so full of inspiration! It is difficult for me not to act on what I see, hear, taste, smell, and feel. My senses are often overwhelmed, and I resort to my creative outlets. This blog is one of them.

Really? Wow! THANKS!! That would be crazy… but it would be really cool too. 🙂 Thank you so much for the very kind words. I don’t mind how many people view my blog though, because it is just another creative outlet I suppose. Wow… I get all excited just from one or two comments! I can’t even imagine 1,000. XD
