From a young homeschooler’s heart…

Since I have been stuck at home until I feel better again, I have been looking through old school books and reviewing things from my past. This is partially educational because it is almost like a refresher of my elementary and high school years. It is also partially emotional because of the personal things that are tied in with all of it. I discovered an old journal beneath my 2nd grade math book, and this journal only had one entry. This one entry amused me so much, that I have decided to share it with you:

I whent to sleep in my vareiy ohne bed yesusderday.”

I was SO little when I wrote that. My handwriting has changed greatly, my spelling has drastically improved, and I am not nearly as good at summarizing as I used to be. One thing is very clear though… I used to treat my journal in the same way I treat Facebook now. I would write very menial sentences or paragraphs all throughout my days, sometimes journaling several times a day and other times I’d go weeks without journaling. The biggest difference is that Facebook is very public, and I used to hide any scrap pieces of paper/notebooks/sketches/journals/diaries/etc. in/under/behind/above anything that would keep them from being found by somebody I didn’t want having access to them. I found this very interesting, and I wonder why it’s okay for me to post “I just woke up and have the worst headache ever,” on Facebook for all of my friends and family to see, but as a child I used to hide quirky things like that from even my own mother.

I made another discovery in my reminiscing. An old list that was made of all the things I loved about homeschooling! 😀 Ha ha ha.

  1. I get to have fun with my family.
  2. I don’t get in trouble for silly things, like forgetting to raise my hand.
  3. I love my family.
  4. I’m curious, and I can learn anything I want.
  5. I can go to school in my pj’s without a special day.
  6. When we’re done we’re done, and we can play.
  7. I can eat food whenever I get hungry, and I can make my own food with mommy.
  8. We’re together more.
  9. I get to rollerblade for gym!
  10. The teacher trusts you and cares more.
  11. I’m less nervous.
  12. I’m really happy.
  13. I get to learn more than I did before.

Obviously, I corrected the spelling for that one. 😛 After reading through this list, it has re-affirmed how much I love homeschooling and how much I love my college. With a few alterations, I could say almost all of the same things about my college experiences!

  1. The class is like a family.
  2. I don’t get in trouble for silly things, like forgetting to raise my hand.
  3. I love my new friends.
  4. I’m curious, and I can learn anything I want.
  5. I can go to school in my pj’s without a special day.
  6. When we’re done we’re done, and we can socialize or do research.
  7. I can eat food whenever I get hungry.
  8. We learn more together.
  9. I can excercise before or after class however I want to.
  10. The teacher trusts you and cares more. (Depends on the teacher, but so far I’ve been lucky)
  11. I’m less nervous.
  12. I’m really happy.
  13. I get to learn more than I did before.

I just thought these things were humorous and enlightening. Let me know what you think, and I would love to hear YOUR positive comments about your own education experiences. I don’t care if you were publicly educated, homeschooled, if you are in college, if you didn’t go to college, if you dropped out, I just want to hear your happy memories and moments!

I’m Tweeting (Yikes!)

  • So, I started going by my middle name in college because I've always liked it better. Now I'm Renée, and can be tweeted at "teafaellana." 3 years ago
  • I keep reading fanfics to tide me over until #OUaT is back. I can't wait to see more character development of Regina! #EvilRegals 3 years ago
  • This has somehow been the best and worst Thanksgiving I've ever had, all at once. 3 years ago

Heather loves hats that are designed to look like cute animals, fairy wings, cheese pizza, swimming in ponds, roller blading, taking silly self-portraits, learning, spending time with people, and just about everything else too. Heather does not love ... well, there isn't a lot that she doesn't love. You can probably figure it out after a little while!
