You’re Scanner Just Turned Into an Ink Pen

Don’t Be Alarmed.

Okay, maybe you can be a little bit alarmed.

I have been a fan of Wacom technology for at least 6 years now. I’ve owned my very own Intuos3 4×6 tablet for roughly 5 years and I absolutely love it. On my dreamiest days I tell myself that one day I will have enough extra cash to justify purchasing the Cintiq 12wx.

I visited their website tonight, to watch the video for the Cintiq 12wx again and I happened upon one of the most mind-bending, earth-shattering, horrifically wonderful discoveries. Too bad Wacom did it first!

As a kid I had dreamed that whatever I drew with my pencil could magically show up on the computer. Some people said, “Duh, a scanner,” but I never really liked that answer. It was just too much of a hassle scanning in loads of sketches that really might not even be worth it. Sometimes the paper didn’t fit in the scanner. Sometimes the scanner missed a few lines or colors or shadows.

Then I got my first Wacom tablet and I thought all of my dreams had come true. I was partially right– I didn’t have to scan my digital art anymore. But it would always be just that… DIGITAL art. Yeah, it was way better than drawing with a mouse and I still liked it. Yes, my art sky-rocketed to drastic improvements. It’s true that even my photograph editing has improved since I got my trusty Intuos3.

The problem faced was that I decidedly began to miss the soothing nature of holding pen to paper. I did not create a serious traditional piece of art for nearly the entire first 4 years I owned my Wacom tablet. Then I finally got back into traditional media and fell in love all over again. I remember why I loved art in the first place. How I could just get lost in it!

But again, I hate scanning things.

Wacom may have just come a step closer to my childhood dream. They’ve created a ball point pen, called Inkling that is pressure sensitive and saves a digital likeness of your work (LAYERS INCLUDED!!!!) and allows you to sketch on any paper, anywhere. I don’t know if I want to dish out $199 for one of these pens just yet, or ever, but the video sure is enticing. Especially to the little girl in my head.

Check out the video:

Wacom, you just created the possibility of carrying a scanner around in my pocket. I kind of love that.

Happy Adventures,
Burkie

  • I keep reading fanfics to tide me over until #OUaT is back. I can't wait to see more character development of Regina! #EvilRegals 3 years ago
  • This has somehow been the best and worst Thanksgiving I've ever had, all at once. 3 years ago
